Leonard Bernstein was born August 25, 1918 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA, and died in New York on October 14, 1990.

It has the advantage of leading popular music and classical. Bernstein playing piano since the age of 10, and enrolled in:
  • Latin School and Harvard University (graduated 1939)
  • Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia from 1939 to 1941.
In 1943 he was appointed assistant at the New York Philharmonic kondaktor. Early success looks when he replaced Bruno Walter kondaktor task. Not long after, he became kondaktor New York City Center Orchestra from 1945 higga 1947, and appeared as a guest kondaktor in the United States, Europe, and Israel.

In 1953, he was the first American to be kondaktor at La Scala, Milan. Its popularity increased as kondaktor and pianist as well as a commentator and entertainer. He continues to write music and perform as a guest in several symphony kondaktor worldwide.

Works by Bernstein as a composer, among others:

  • On the Town (1944)
  • Wonderful Town (1953)
  • Candide (1956)
  • West Side Story (1957; movie version 1961)
  • Symphony No. 1 (also called Jeremiah; 1942)
  • Chichester Psalms (1965)
  • The themes for the Jewish liturgy as in the Symphony No. 3 (Kaddish; 1963)
  • Jazz rhythms such as the Symphony # 2 (The Age of Anxiety; 1949)
In a piece of music for ballet:

  • Fancy Free (1944)
  • Facsimile (1946)
  • Dybbuk (1974)
Bernstein also published:

  • The Joy of Music (1959);
  • Young People's Concerts, for Reading and Listening (1962, rev. Ed. 1970);
  • The Infinite Variety of Music (1966); and
  • The Unanswered Question (1976), taken from his Charles Eliot Norton lectures at Harvard (1973).
Besides, he also wrote the music for the film "On the Waterfront (1954)," Masses essay specifically used in the opportunities opening of "John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts", in Washington, DC, in September 1971

  1. The score for "On The Waterfront" is amazing - And watching him conduct the Vienna Phil's Sibelius 2 is so inspiring.
